<description>RITS - RUSSIAN INTERNATIONAL THEATRE SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN AND
YOUNG PEOPLE in London. The performance in Russian language.
&quot;I remember a wonderful moment...&quot; is a charming tribute to a great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.
This dreamlike compilation of scenes picked out of Pushkin's fairy-tales and poems is led by the &quot;Author&quot;
himself. Although in this production we do not follow through the individual story lines, we still somehow become completely immersed in the beautiful world of love, kindness and true human feelings. That might be love between a man and a woman, love for nature or for ones homeland. Pushkin's timeless poetry combined with the exotic dancing and strikingly rich directorial style makes this show a genuine gem, providing an easy introduction to stage for its young stars.

			<description>Wednesday 29 April 2009 | 7.45pm
Purcell Room

Foyle Future Firsts
Schoenberg Three Pieces for Chamber Orchestra (1910)
Stravinksy Eight Instrumental Miniatures
Stravinsky Trois Poésies de la lyrique japonaise
Mahler Symphony 4

Clement Power conductor
Eri Nakamura soprano

This evening the Foyle Future Firsts, the Orchestra’s outstanding young apprentice musicians, come together to play music by three masters of the twentieth century. Handpicked from amongst the most talented music college graduates in the UK, these apprentice musicians join the Orchestra for a year of mentoring, performance experience and education work, culminating in the chance to perform together as a group in concert at Southbank Centre.

The Foyle Future Firsts scheme bridges the perilous gap between advanced musical training and regular paid work in the profession; a gap which often sees gifted musicians lost to non-musical careers. Since the scheme was launched in 2004, past Foyle Future Firsts have obtained both work and full-time positions with some of the UK’s leading professional orchestras.

The Foyle Future Firsts programme is generously funded by The Foyle Foundation with additional support from the Musicians Benevolent Fund.

Christopher Bell conductor

Prepare to be whisked from your Royal Festival Hall seat and taken on a magical journey, courtesy of a sleigh, a steam-train, nine flying horses and fifty elephants! Ever wondered how you could make your journey into London more planet-friendly? Honegger’s steam-train-inspired Pacific 231 might not lower your carbon emissions too much, but Prokofiev’s ‘sleigh- ride’ Troika could well do, Wagner’s flying Valkyrie horses are certain to, and the fifty elephants of Stravinsky’s extravagant spectacle Circus Polka might slow you down, but at least they’re exempt from the congestion charge!

This concert will last for about an hour.

Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet - Montagues and Capulets
Bernstein Symphonic Dances from West Side Story (excerpts)

Stuart Stratford conductor
Chris Jarvis presenter

Pray silence for the Great Bard… though this concert will be anything but quiet – with battles, weddings, jovial japes and dazzling dances a plenty. There’s warmongering from Walton, magic from Mendelssohn, pomp from Prokofiev, and bravado from Bernstein as we take you on an orchestral adventure through scenes from the great stage masterpieces of William Shakespeare. Travel ‘on location’ with us to Agincourt, Athens, Verona and New York with music written for films, musicals, ballets and the plays themselves. Is this a spectacle I see before me? It certainly is!

This concert will last for about an hour.

FUNharmonics Family Concert Musical Menagerie

Stravinsky The Firebird Suite (excerpts)
Stephen McNeff The Tale of Peter Rabbit (from Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit and his Friends in the Orchestra)
Matthew Hindson Dangerous Creatures (world premiere)

David Angus conductor
Chris Jarvis presenter

Join us for a musical menagerie featuring animals big, small, cute and ferocious! Mr McGregor from Beatrix Potter’s Tale of Peter Rabbit certainly has an affection for ‘birds and fishes and beasties’– particularly when they’re served up on a plate! This enchanting musical version of the story by Stephen McNeff rubs shoulders with a rather more inedible feathered creature, Stravinsky’s spectacularly powerful Firebird. But beware of the prowling beasts that are waiting in the wings courtesy of Matthew Hindson, whose new work Dangerous Creatures is sure to scare, delight and enthral!

This concert will last for about an hour.

Dangerous Creatures has been commissioned by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

<description> An exhibition of work by Laia Lopez, Hannah Luxton, Rosemary Moore and Christina Wilmowski

Private View: Friday 14th November 2008 - 6 pm to 11 pm
Exhibition runs from: Friday 14th to 20th November 2008
Gallery Opening Hours: Sat, Mon, Tues, Wed: 2.30 pm - 6.30 pm
Last day of Exhibition: Thurs 20th November: 11.00am to 5.00pm

This exhibition is an exploration of everyday existence, from the daily environments we encounter, the possessions we amass, to the relationships we form and the bodies we inhabit. An exciting array of art forms will be on display, with pieces varying from sculpture and drawing to moving image.

The exhibition showcases the most recent work of four students from Kingston University, named Laia Lopez, Hannah Luxton, Rosemary Moore and Christina Wilmowski. Their varying social backgrounds bring a dynamic cultural multiplicity to their creative practices. Although each artist’s work differs to that of the others, the subject matter of their pieces often overlap and intertwine. This is the result of the artists having shared perceptions and interests, and having worked closely together for two years.

Hannah Luxton’s work is the product of her ongoing attention to detail. She is particularly interested in how weather conditions such as fog, heavy rain or certain types of light affect how our surroundings look.

For Laia Lopez, repetitive acts are key to her art practise. Her work refers to various aspects of a person’s life; for instance, she documents a person’s accumulated belongings and maps the choices that an individual can make.

Christina Wilmowski’s work challenges ideals of the physical body in our society. She uses atypical sculptural materials, including those with surgical connotations (like tubing and cloth) to provoke reflections on body consciousness.

Rosemary Moore’s drawings examine the complexities of everyday relationships. She explores, for instance, the perceptions and misconceptions that can arise from bonds with other people.

			<description>TEEN SCREAM

The frighteningly funny musical written by The Heather Brothers; creators of the hit musicals 'A Slice of Saturday Night' and 'Lust'.

'...it’s a real SCREAM...' ‘High School Musical’ meets ‘Halloween’ in this exciting new musical comedy.

A group of high school kids rehearse their end-of-year musical in a derelict theatre on a tiny island in the middle of a river. Events take a sinister twist as real life starts to echo the play they’re rehearsing and a crazed killer strikes. The offbeat group of friends rally to unlock the killer’s identity and get caught up in the deadly results – solving this mystery is going to be murder. The bridge is out, the phone wires cut and the stage is set for what promises to be an exhilarating and terrifyingly funny musical comedy.

With it’s fantastic score, unequalled laugh-to-shriek ratio, plot twists a-plenty and blood, guts and special effects galore, the show parodies those ‘infamous’ teen horror movies of the nineties. A fun, fast, and frighteningly furious musical romp not to be missed.

TEEN SCREAM will be performed at the Kenneth More Theatre, Ilford, Essex from Thursday 24th - Saturday 26th July 2008 at 7.45pm and 3.00pm (sat only). For tickets and further information contact 0208 553 4466 or 01708 458262 or visit www.sotheatre.com.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW FROM THE THEATRE BOX OFFICE ON 0208 553 4466 SO BOOK NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT

Please note: ‘Teen Scream’ is not suitable for younger audiences or those of a nervous disposition... you have been warned...!

<description>THE McGUFFINS OPEN AIR CINEMA 2008

presents

‘ON THE TOWN’

+ The John Garfield Swing Band LIVE!

VENUE: Walthamstow Town Square and Gardens, London E17 (directly opposite Walthamstow Central underground station).

The sixth annual McGuffins Open Air Cinema takes place in Walthamstow town centre on Saturday 12 July at 8pm. Classic Hollywood comedy musical ‘On the Town’ will be shown on a giant screen to be erected in the town square and gardens, transforming central Walthamstow into a massive free outdoor cinema.

The Open Air Cinema event is taking place earlier than normal this year to tie in with the London-wide Big Dance festivities.

The feature film ‘On The Town’ is a colourful Oscar-winning MGM musical starring Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly and Betty Garrett which features some of Hollywood’s most celebrated dance sequences and routines. The film follows the exploits of three young sailors looking for love on an eventful day’s shore leave in New York…

The event will commence with a live appearance by the celebrated John Garfield Swing Band performing classic songs of the period including their own tribute to Frank Sinatra – dancing encouraged!

Bring blankets, picnics, friends and dancing shoes for a relaxed evening of movie magic under the stars of Waltham Forest! A licensed bar will be available on site.

Admission free.

			<description>SoulParade
@The Barlfy,Camden
Thursday 10th July 2008
Doors:7PM.

Introducing the next phase of British Rock music at its best led by the mighty SoulParade, a cool collective trio, fronted by Daniel Handley on vocals/guitar, Tom Copley on Bass and Fabien Walheim on Drums.

Their chilled out yet piquant approach to an array of genres makes it hard to squeeze this parade onto one defining street.

An indie rock infusion, experimenting with the likes of indie rock, alternative, groove and reggae with echoes of Radiohead, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, even U2 and a touch of Led Zep thrown into their influence behind their great sound and wickedly catchy tunes!

Soul Parade are refreshing to hear, their exuberant attitude is highlighted in forthcoming single tracks such as ‘Untouchable Love’ and ‘Light the fuse’, creating a spark within your musical taste buds. The heavier, driving and poweful nature of their last track, the much acclaimed and political 'Ill Topics' rounds off the offering for the debut EP single

Signed to Out of Bounds Music, with Paul Handley as their innovative executive producer and manager bringing this new raw talent to the masses. With the North of England holding onto the indie reigns tightly, Soul Parade originating from North London are finally about to buck the trend and are definately a band set to take over, with songs that will reach millions!

Releasing their much anticipated first EP in September, it is clear that Soul Parade will have the girls in a fluster and create an unforgettable and untouchable stir within the industry.

Check out their MySpace to marvel at their sound from demos of two of the songs which are being re-recorded for the single. Or even better see them playing Filming will be taking place for DVD material! We look forward to seeing you there!

Make sure you join us and watch history in the making one more time at The Barfly!

<description>Stage One Theatre Company in collaboration with The Heather Brothers present:

TEEN SCREAM

the new musical comedy from the creators of the hit musicals 'A Slice of Saturday Night' and 'Lust'

Book, Music and Lyrics by The Heather Brothers

'...it’s a real SCREAM...' ‘High School Musical’ meets ‘Halloween’ in this exciting new musical comedy.

A group of high school kids rehearse their end-of-year musical in a derelict theatre on a tiny island in the middle of a river. Events take a sinister twist as real life starts to echo the play they’re rehearsing and a crazed killer strikes. The offbeat group of friends rally to unlock the killer’s identity and get caught up in the deadly results – solving this mystery is going to be murder. The bridge is out, the phone wires cut and the stage is set for what promises to be an exhilarating and terrifyingly funny musical comedy not to be missed.

‘Teen Scream’ is not suitable for younger audiences or those of a nervous disposition... you have been warned...

Wednesday 23rd - Saturday 26th July 2008
at 7.45pm and 3.00pm (Sat Only)

Kenneth More Theatre
Oakfield road, Ilford, Essex

Tickets: £12.00(£8.50 matinee only)

			<guid>http://shows.vivastreet.co.uk/shows-listings-ads+london-se18/the-blue-room/7622584</guid>
<description>Based on Schnitzler’s 1900 play La Ronde, David Hare’s The Blue Room follows the sexual interactions of 10 unlikely couples.

When the play was first produced it was closed down by the police and the actors were fined for obscenity, it became infamous in Britain for Nicole Kidman’s raunchy nude scenes. Hare has re-set these circular scenes of love and betrayal in modern day Britain.

The University of Greenwich Drama Society hold nothing back as they recreate this passionate and controversial piece of theatre for their first production in Woolwich, at the Old Baths Theatre, London, SE18 6QX. For directions please see: http://w3.gre.ac.uk/drama/where.html

Tickets are free but available on a first come first serve basis with admission restricted to those aged 16+. Donations are also very welcome and gratefully received.

The show runs from 11th June 2008 at 14.30 and 19.30 to the 12th June 2008 at 19.30.

<description>This is an open invitation to a screening of a series of short films called People of the Forest.

Filmmakers and investigators will be present to talk about the stories behind their documentaries.

Speakers include Gavin Searle (Director of BAFTA nominated BBC series Tribe), award-winners Handcrafted Films, and investigators from The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA).

EIA is a small, pioneering London-based organisation which uses undercover and surveillance techniques to gather intelligence on environmental criminals across the world, often at great personal risk to investigators.

This evening encompasses some of our work with threatened forest communities, including the first ever films made by Papuan people about how illegal logging gangs are threatening their way of life.

Thursday 15 May 2008.
